When the Rapid Solicitors Leicester Lions take to the track next month they will be resplendent in a new set of kevlars with the name ARVIS featuring prominently on the front and reverse sides of the suits.
The company, are new to Leicester Speedway in terms of sponsorship but there is a link with the sport as their Sales Director Bryan Newton goes back a long way to the first era of the Lions as he explains.
“I have been an avid speedway fan since childhood. I attended Gateway Grammar School in the city and our playing fields were at the top of the hill on Somerset Avenue near the old Blackbird Road Stadium. We were given bus vouchers to get to the playing fields but walked there along the old Central Way. This allowed me to save the vouchers so I could go to watch the Lions every Tuesday night armed with air horn and clip board! The Lions had a great team in those days with Ray Wilson and Johnny Boulger my outstanding heroes. The sound and smell of the bikes and taste of grit in the mouth is addictive! Although I do not get to go as regularly as I would wish, I have watched Monday night Speedway on Sky TV, often recording the match when other commitments interfere.
